If you are looking for a VR game that involves the whole family there are a few good choices. Traffic Jams has just come to PlayStation VR (along with Steam and Oculus) and offers a way for up to 7 players to play together with one on the headset and 6 helpers using smartphones.
Traffic Jams is a puzzle party game where you direct traffic in VR using just hand gestures. It looks like a Pixar movie when you put the headset on, but the fun here is controlling the chaos (or often not controlling it). Along with the single-player where the game provides the traffic, the multiplayer mode has up to four friends generating the traffic to hit different objectives.
Playing Traffic Jams involves controlling individual pedestrians, cars, mopeds, trains and buses. You do this not by pressing buttons but by pointing with one hand to identify who you are directing and then a hand gesture with the other to specify whether they should stop, start or hurry up.
Things start simply with just a couple of intersecting streets, but as you progress more streets, traffic and hazards are introduced. To do well on any of the levels you must keep the traffic flowing otherwise it will get impatient and lose you points.
One of the best parts of the game, and unusual for VR experiences, is the multiplayer mode where you work together to score points. One person has the VR headset on and the others provide different traffic and hazards by tapping different icons on a smartphone app.
This game has been rated PEGI 7. You should also note that VR is usually not advised for children under 12 years old as their eyes are still developing.
Because this is a VR game the main player needs to be standing to play it. They also wave their hands around to direct the traffic and generally move a lot. It's not going to be a workout like Beat Saber but still, Traffic Jams is a great and active game that gets the heart pumping.
If you enjoyed this game there are some other similar games you should also try. Also, if VR is not for you, these are also a good alternative:
- Very Very Valey (PEGI 7) is a great game about parking cars.
- Taxi Chaos (PEGI 7) is a game about navigating a city as a taxi driver.
- Acron: Attack of the Squirrels (PEGI 7) is a great game about defending the base from squirrels.
